Group Care
We believe that Jesus is the solution to every struggle and uncertainty our youth encounter, so our goal is to share the message of hope and healing in Jesus through our words and our lives. Residential Centers provide nurture, education, care and treatment for adolescent boys and girls.
What is Group Care?
Holston Home operates a variety of therapeutic programs that are part of the agency’s larger continuum of care providing residential services, foster care, special education, independent living, and intensive in-home services with birth families.
Our goal is to nurture and love each child in a Christian environment while individualizing a plan to address their educational, behavioral, spiritual, and mental health needs. We want each child to reach their God given potential as part of a forever family and also as a successful adult.
How it Works
Licensed by the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
Accredited by the Council on Accreditation (a national accrediting body).
Staffing
Every group care facility is staffed with trained teacher-counselors who provide support and supervision, all while building strong relationships with our youth. These staff are supported by Child and Family Specialists, program directors and supervisors, mental health professionals, adventure-based counselors, and a Christian Life team.
Referrals & Fees
Referrals may come from private families, state custodial agencies, and other area provider agencies. Fees are negotiated with state agencies, and private families pay for services on a sliding scale based on income.
Our Facilities & Programs
Key components of service for each of these programs include Christian life activities, individual and group counseling, family counseling, alcohol and drug education, adventure-based counseling, adaptive living and independent-living skills training.
River Academy
A ministry of Holston Home for Children.
River Academy is a private Christian School housed in the Cunningham Center on the main campus of Holston Home. River Academy is designed for children who may be having trouble succeeding in school or in the community. River Academy offers an opportunity to gain knowledge, interpersonal skills, and personal worth that will allow him or her to discover new and more positive ways to relate to the world.
Brumit Preparation for Adult Living (PAL)
The Brumit program is designed to help young men between 17 to 21 years old make the transition into adulthood successfully.
Individuals who go through this program gain valuable life skills across the board: from independent living and financial management, to driving skills and how to live out their faith.
Wiley Center
The Wiley Center is a 30-bed Residential Program for boys and young men.
Here, youth are helped in two residence halls, Kent Bewley Home for Boys & Rodney Atkins Home for Boys. Each is designed to house up to 20 youth. This is a highly structured program for adolescent boys between the ages of 11 and 18. An Independent Living program is provided for young men ages 17-21 at the Rodney Atkins Home. These modern facilities have their own kitchen and study areas, large group gathering rooms, baths and private bedrooms. Each of the four corners of both buildings has a covered porch.
The facility sits atop a picturesque hill on a 150-acre campus. The average length of stay is 4-6 months, although this time may be extended based on the needs of the youth. The goal for each youth is to be reunited with his family or a foster family if his family is not a safe resource.
Eligible youth are boys between the ages of 11 and 18, with an intelligence quotient of 70 or above. Those requiring daily medical attention or care in a secure facility are not eligible.
Girls Residential Care
Girls Residential serves adolescent girls ages 13 to 18 who require a highly structured group-living program.
Youth eligible for this program have moderate to severe behavioral and/or emotional difficulties.
